I received a call from Nidhi Agarwal of KLI at 16:16 from 8929258679 (8 minutes 44 seconds) who stated that she was calling for an Unclaimed policy wherein I had paid single premium of INR 45,000 against KLI Policy No. 02843927 which commenced on 30th March 2014 and did not pay any amount thereafter and it had now become INR 1,68,293; therefore she stated I had 1 of 2 options: either advise her that I was closing the policy and KLI would pay me INR 1,68,293 which was the value of the premium I had already paid plus accruals, or, I could revive the policy by paying apprx 3 lakhs of due premium and receive all benefits on maturity date of 6th April 2030, with no TDS and amount of payout being tax-free. I would need to ensure I named an “heir” she said and I should pay 4 instalments. The agent was she said “Sudhir Shinde” of KLI.
When I asked her for more details enable me take a decision, she asked me to confirm with Yash Sharma in KLI Mumbai at 7836089655 (26 minutes 9 seconds). I called at 16:47. Yash had much to say including the fact, which I did not know, that such policies – stating these were single-payment/once-payment instruments issued by KLI – were sold incorrectly, almost fraudulently to numerous customers by the agent/s involved (agents receive between 40-45% of premiums straight-away, he stated) leaving customers in the lurch. From his records, he could see that the policy was “dead” and Yash repeated almost what Nidhi had stated that I could either revive (with new name against life insured) or opt for credit my bank account with proceeds. On questioning, he advised that whatever amount was credited (maybe 20-25000 rupees he said) would be on maturity date 6th April 2030 although Nidhi had stated that INR 1,68, 293 would be paid to me if I opted not to revive the policy.
Clarifying he stated that I did not revive the policy with KLI, the amount already paid by me to KLI, would be handed over to the Government “Senior Citizen’s Welfare Fund” which he said was managed by an NGO. I found that surprising esp. as thereafter I was advised that no email/nothing in writing could be sent to me!
I was quite convinced that something was smelling “fishy” and I advised Yash that I withdrew all what I had stated and was not reviving or closing the policy, and, if needed, I may approach legal means to file my complaint pet*tion.
Both discussions have been recorded by KLI and can be accessed.
I look forward to your response after appropriate investigation and verifications esp. to ensure neither Kotak Life nor any customers are affected.
Meantime, I remain worried.
Thank you.
